Naturopathic family medicine and home birth midwife offering individualized care

Dr. Hanna Powers, ND

Dr. Hanna Powers earned her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR. During her studies, she developed a deep passion for primary care, with a particular focus on women’s health and pediatrics. She also completed a certification in natural childbirth, enabling her to serve as a midwife and support out-of-hospital births. Dr. Powers is dedicated to the core principles of naturopathic medicine and takes a personalized approach to care, treating each patient as a unique individual.

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) practice naturopathic medicine. Naturopathic medicine is a style of medicine that is deeply rooted in both philosophy and practice. Naturopathic medicine is guided by the following principles:

  1. The body has an innate capability to heal itself and will do so when under the right conditions.

  2. Identifying and treating the root cause of disease is essential to long-term health.

  3. The doctor should teach their patients how to care for and heal themselves.

  4. The doctor should look at their patients from a holistic perspective, taking into account all aspects of the individual that contribute to health, including physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, and environmental health.

  5. Preventative medicine should be practiced, including encouragement of healthy living, in order to mitigate future health issues.

  6. Above all else, use the least-invasive therapies possible to achieve maximum healing and, with that, do no harm.

Why a Naturopathic midwife?

Naturopathic Midwives are highly trained birth professionals. We can provide pre-pregnancy support and pre-natal appointments, order all appropriate lab work and imaging during a pregnancy, support out-of-hospital births, and post-partum care. We can continue to provide care past the typical 6 weeks postpartum. This continuity of care is one of my favorite parts of being an ND midwife. As ND midwives we have many tools in our tool kit including homeopathy, nutrition support, access to pharmaceuticals when appropriate, herbal medicine, and physical medicine to support you.
